What is the Hawksmoor Cordless Hedge Trimmer 18v 51cm?
Whether your hedges are large or small, complicated in shape or completely square, the right hedge trimmer can transform the experience of cutting them back. I tested this year’s leading brands and found the Hawksmoor Cordless Hedge Trimmer to be a lightweight, budget model that held its own against much pricier competitors.
It is battery-powered, with an impressive run time of 50 minutes. This is only slightly below the 57 minutes offered by our Best Buy from Worx. The Hawksmoor’s long 51cm blade is well-suited to shaping and tidying softer bushes in the garden. The 16mm tooth spacing means it is not well suited to woody hedges such as beech and hazel. However, the odd larger branch could be easily dealt with using secateurs or a powered pruner as needed.
If you’re looking for a trimmer that isn’t too expensive, the Hawksmoor will make the cut.
JUMP TO:
You can’t understand the performance of a hedge trimmer without trying it out on a real hedge or shrub. Unfortunately, this service isn’t usually offered in the average power tool shop, which is why I have done the job for you.
As a gardener of almost 20 years and author of Grow a New Garden, I’m a big fan of hedges. They are good for wildlife, filter out noise and pollutants, create privacy, and when properly maintained, look great. Without maintenance however, they can quickly become scruffy and start to encroach on space. Hedge trimmers, like strimmers, help keep your garden tidy, with minimal effort.
With the end of the nesting season between March and September when you’re not meant to cut back hedgerows, I took to my garden to test the best hedge trimmers of 2025, using them on soft shrubs, harder, woody hedges and a variety of different hedgerow plants and shrubs. During testing, I assessed their design, performance, ease of use, power and blade, giving each a score out of ten. These scores were then used to produce the final, overall score.
